In a fixed mindset, people believe their qualities like intelligence, moral character, personality, talents etc., are fixed traits and cannot be modified with effort. Striving for success and avoiding failure at all costs is a way of maintaining the sense of being smart and skilled. They seem to have this one consuming goal of proving themselves— in the classroom, in their careers, and in their relationships. Every situation calls for a confirmation of their intelligence, personality or character. They constantly evaluate themselves in terms of being a winner or a loser, smart or dumb, accepted or rejected.
